Target Audience

Biomass appliances and systems are becoming increasing complex. In response, to demand from installers HETAS has introduced the biomass course to enable installers to develop the knowledge and skills required to select, install, commission, service and maintain biomass appliances and to demonstrate the competence required for membership of installer certification schemes.

The Biomass course focus on appliances up to 45kW heat input rating including log, pellet and chip appliances; however, the course content is typically also relevant to larger appliances up to 100kW heat input rating.   

Pre–Requisites

  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • Or N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • Or N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • Or N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • Or N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • In addition, if not included in the above current certification in relation to Water Regulations/Water Byelaws (WRAS or equivalent)

Assessment

Multiple choice, practical and desk based assessments.

Qualification

HETAS will issue certificates as appropriate to the results notified.
